The short version
- We collect what we need to decide whether you can join Strech, to send you jobs, to pay you through Stripe, to keep homeowners and you safe, and to meet our legal duties.
- Vetting is done by people. We check your licenses and insurance on official sources, meet you in person, and, with your written permission, order a background check through Checkr. We never order a credit report.
- We never copy or photograph your ID. Your Social Security number and date of birth go directly to Checkr and Stripe, not to us.
- We do not collect face scans or other biometric information, and we do not use face recognition.
- Your device's location is collected only while you are on an active job, from "On my way" until the job is done, and never while you are off a job.
- Homeowners see your name, business name, photo, trade, license number and rating. They do not see your phone number, email or home address.
- If your business sends its own technicians to jobs, we vet each technician in the same way as an individual Pro, and this Policy covers their information too.
- If a job comes from a homeowner's Strech sensor alert, you receive only the alert details needed for that job, and you must keep them confidential.
- We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
- No decision to decline, suspend or remove you is made by a computer alone. You are told the reason, and you can appeal.
- You can see, download, correct and delete your information. Section 18 explains how.
- Questions go to pro@strech.ai.
This summary is for convenience only. The full Policy below controls.

- Sections 9 and 10 explain who receives your information and how we handle requests from police and government.
- Section 11 covers safety Reports, suspension and removal, and Section 12 lists our commitments.
- Sections 13 to 15 cover texts and calls, payouts and taxes, and photos and ratings.

1 About this Policy
1.1 Who we are
Strech Inc. ("Strech", "we", "us" or "our") runs Strech, the home operating system: small sensors in homeowners' homes catch problems early, and vetted local professionals fix them. For Pros, Strech is a booking service that connects homeowners in Montgomery County, Maryland with independent local professionals for home repair and home help. Strech is the controller of the personal information described in this Policy, which means Strech decides why and how that information is processed and is responsible for it.
1.2 Who this Policy covers
This Policy applies to:
- every person who applies to provide services through Strech, whether or not the application is approved (an "applicant");
- every person approved to provide services through Strech, whether working as an individual or through a business (each a Strech Professional, or "Pro" or "you");
- the owner, officers and authorized representatives of a Pro's business, when they deal with Strech for the business;
- every technician a Pro's business names to Strech or sends to a job, as described in Section 2.3; and
- any helper a Pro lists on a job, and any other person a Pro's business sends to a job, to the extent Strech collects information about that person.
1.3 What this Policy covers
This Policy covers personal information collected through the Strech Professional app on iPhone, Android and the web, through the Pro application form on our website at https://strech.ai/pros/ and the welcome-call booking that follows it, through our application, vetting, training and activation process, through our support line, support email and staff communications with Pros, and through the services we provide to Pros (together, the "Pro App").
This Policy does not cover:
- information about homeowners, including the readings and alerts from a homeowner's Strech sensors, which is covered by the Privacy Policy for Homeowners, although Section 19 explains your duties when you receive any of it for a job;
- the rest of the Strech website, such as the homeowner waitlist, which is covered by the Privacy Policy for Homeowners at https://strech.ai/privacy/ and our Cookies Policy at https://strech.ai/cookies/;
- information that Checkr, Stripe or another company collects from you under its own privacy policy, as described in Sections 5, 14 and 23; and
- information you share with a homeowner directly, outside Strech.
1.4 Your status as an independent business
Pros are independent businesses, not Strech employees. Nothing in this Policy makes you an employee, agent or partner of Strech. Strech collects and uses information about your work to run a booking service: to decide whether you meet the standards homeowners rely on, to send you jobs you may accept or decline, to confirm that visits happen safely, and to pay you through Stripe. Strech does not use this information to direct how you perform your trade. You decide whether to accept a job, and how to do the work, within the law, your license and the job the homeowner booked.
1.5 How this Policy relates to your agreements
This Policy forms part of the Strech Terms of Service for Pros, available at https://strech.ai/terms/pros/, and the Strech contractor agreement you sign (together, the "Pro Terms"). If this Policy and the Pro Terms conflict on how we handle personal information, this Policy controls. Any dispute about this Policy is handled under the dispute resolution section of the Pro Terms, to the extent the law allows. Your separate authorization for a background check, described in Section 5, is a standalone document and is not part of this Policy.
1.6 Our approach
We follow five principles in everything this Policy describes:
- Collect less. We collect personal information only when it is reasonably necessary and proportionate to vet you, send you jobs, pay you, keep visits safe, or meet a legal duty.
- Check, don't copy. Where we can confirm something by looking at the original or an official source, we record the result instead of keeping a copy.
- Share less. Homeowners and companies receive only what they need, only when they need it.
- People decide. Every decision to decline, suspend or remove a Pro is made by a person, with reasons, and can be appealed.
- Be clear. We tell you plainly what we do, and we never penalize you for using your rights.
2 Who may apply
2.1 Age
You must be 18 or older to apply to or provide services through Strech. We confirm your age in person, as described in Section 4.5. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that an applicant is under 18, we end the application and delete the information, except the minimum record needed to show why.
2.2 Where Strech operates
Strech currently operates only in Montgomery County, Maryland. You must be able to provide services there, and you must hold any license that Maryland, Montgomery County or WSSC Water requires for the work you offer.
2.3 Businesses, technicians and helpers
If you work through a business, such as a limited liability company, you confirm that you are authorized to act for it, and the business is responsible for the people it sends.
A Pro's business may send people who work for it to jobs, instead of or as well as attending itself (each a "technician"), as the Pro Terms explain. A technician must be employed or engaged by the business, be named to Strech before their first job, and pass the same vetting Strech applies to an individual Pro: identity and age confirmed in person, a background check with their own written authorization, training, and, where the work requires a license held by the person who does it, a license we have verified. Where this Policy describes information about a Pro, it also describes information about a technician, and a technician has the same rights under Section 18. Section 3.15 lists what we collect about technicians. When a business names a technician, it confirms that it has told the technician about this Policy.
A helper may come to a job only if the helper works for your business, has been individually registered with and approved by Strech, and is listed on the job. When a helper is registered, the helper goes through the vetting steps Strech requires for helpers and is covered by this Policy as an applicant or Pro. When you list a helper on a job, you confirm that the helper has agreed to have their name given to the homeowner.
3 The information we collect
3.1 Application information
On our website. When you apply on our website at https://strech.ai/pros/, we collect your full name, mobile phone number, email address, business name, trade, service area ZIP code, years of experience and team size, and your license number if you choose to give it. You must also tick a box confirming that you are 18 or older, that you agree to the Terms of Service for Pros and that you have read this Policy, and we keep that confirmation with the date and time you gave it. If you tick the optional box agreeing to job texts, we also keep, as a record of your consent, the exact wording you agreed to and the date and time you agreed. Your application is received and stored for us by the form service of the company that hosts our website, and it is read by the Strech team. We do not sell it.
Welcome call. After you apply, you may book a 30-minute welcome call with the Strech team through Calendly, our scheduling service. Calendly collects your name, email address and the time you choose, and, if you choose a phone call instead of a video call, your phone number, and shares the booking with us.
Completing your application. When you complete your application in the Pro App or during vetting, we also collect any of the following that we do not already have:
- your name, email address, mobile phone number and the password or sign-in method you choose;
- your business name and type of business, and whether you work through your own business entity;
- your trade, the services you offer, and how many years you have worked in the trade;
- the state you are based in, the states and the travel radius you serve, and a base point for your work, such as your business ZIP code or address, which we use to estimate distance to jobs;
- your answers to the application questions, including whether you work alone with your own tools and vehicle, whether you serve other platforms, and your acknowledgment that you may decline any job; and
- your confirmation that you are 18 or older and that you agree to the vetting steps.
3.2 Phone screen and in-person meeting
During the phone screen, Strech staff record your answers about your licenses, insurer and agent, years in the trade and availability. Calls are not recorded.
At the in-person meeting, Strech staff confirm your identity by looking at your original government photo ID. We record only your name as it appears on the ID, the type of ID, its expiry date, and that you are 18 or older. We never copy, photograph or scan your ID, and we do not record your ID number or date of birth. With your agreement, we take one profile photo, which homeowners will see. We record factual notes about your tools, vehicle and conduct, and whether you can explain a job and use the Pro App in English.
3.3 Licenses and certifications
We collect the number, class, issuing authority, status, issue and expiry dates, and the name shown on each license or certification you hold, such as a Maryland Home Improvement Commission license, a state electrical, HVACR or plumbing license, a WSSC Water plumbing or gasfitting license, or an EPA Section 608 certification. We check each one ourselves on the official website or with the issuing authority, and we save the result page. These license records are public records published by the issuing authority.
3.4 Insurance
We collect your general liability insurance certificate and the endorsement pages that name Strech as an additional insured, sent to us directly by your insurance agent, including the insurer, policy number, limits and policy dates. We confirm with your agent or insurer that the policy is in force. We also confirm that you hold current auto insurance for the vehicle you drive to jobs, and record the insurer and expiry date.
3.5 Training
When you complete Strech contractor training, we collect the training version, the time you spent on each step, your answers to each question and each attempt, whether you watched any required video, your signature on the training sign-off statements and the typed name you sign with, the date and time, and the device used.
3.6 Background check
With your written authorization, Checkr prepares a background check report about you, as described in Section 5. You enter your Social Security number, date of birth and any other information Checkr requires directly into Checkr's own form. Strech does not collect or store your Social Security number or date of birth. We receive the status and result of the check, and we can view the report in Checkr's secure system while we need it for our decision.
3.7 Contractor agreement and activation
We collect your signed contractor agreement, the date you signed it, and the record of our decision to activate you, including the date and the name of the person who made it.
3.8 Payout and tax information
Stripe collects the information needed to set up your payouts and meet tax and financial-crime laws, including your legal name, date of birth, address, Social Security number or employer identification number, and bank account. Stripe collects this directly, and Strech does not store your taxpayer number or full bank account number. We receive from Stripe your payout account status, the last four digits of your bank account, and the amount, date and status of each payment and payout.
3.9 Information created when you use the Pro App
- Job records: the offers sent to you, whether you accepted, passed or let them expire, the jobs assigned to you, whether a job came from a homeowner's sensor alert, the times you marked "On my way", "I have arrived", started and done, price changes you recorded and the homeowner's decision, cancellations, no-shows and outcomes.
- Performance information: your acceptance, cancellation and no-show counts and rates, the number of jobs completed, your average rating and number of ratings, and Reports involving you.
- Location: your device's location during an active job, as described in Section 7.
- Availability: the days and hours you set, and whether you are available for jobs.
- Communications: messages you send through the Pro App to homeowners and to Strech, emails, and staff notes about calls.
- Photos and notes: the photos you take of the work area and any existing damage, and the notes you add to a job.
- Payment records: what each job paid, Strech's fees, any bonuses, and payout status.
3.10 Information collected automatically
The Pro App collects your device model, operating system and version, app version, language and time-zone settings, crash reports, error logs and records of when and how you use its features. Our servers record the IP address of each request, which can suggest an approximate location such as a city. The Pro App does not use advertising identifiers, does not read your contacts, calendar, microphone or other apps, and contains no advertising or analytics trackers. When you upload a photo, the Pro App removes the location data and other hidden information stored inside the photo file.
3.11 Information from other sources
- Licensing authorities, through their public websites or offices: license status, class, dates and any public discipline.
- Your insurance agent or insurer: your certificate, endorsements and confirmation that your policy is in force.
- Checkr: the background check report and its status.
- Stripe: your payout status and payment records, and any fraud or compliance flag that affects your payouts.
- Homeowners: ratings, reviews, Reports and messages about jobs you did.
- Strech staff: notes from the phone screen, in-person meeting, door checks, calls and Reports.
- Sign-in providers: confirmation of your email or phone number, and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the name and email address that service shares.
- Calendly, our scheduling service: the details of the welcome call you book, as described in Section 3.1.
- References and public sources: if you give us references or point us to your public reviews, the information they provide.
- Emergency services, insurers and authorities: information about an emergency, claim or legal matter involving a job.
3.12 Required and optional information
Some information is required to apply, to be activated, or to receive jobs, and some is optional.
- Required to apply: on the website application, your full name, mobile number, email address, business name, trade, service area ZIP code, years of experience and team size, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older and agree to the Pro Terms; and, to complete your application, your services, base point and service area, and your confirmation that you are 18 or older. Without them, we cannot assess your application or contact you.
- Required to be activated: your original photo ID shown in person, your licenses for the work you offer, your insurance certificate and endorsements, proof of auto insurance, a profile photo, your completed training and sign-off, your authorization for and the result of the background check, your signed contractor agreement, and a Stripe payout account. These are the checks homeowners rely on. If you do not provide one, we cannot activate you, and we tell you which step is missing.
- Required while active: current licenses and insurance, and, during an active job, your job status taps. If a license or policy lapses, the affected work is paused until it is current again.
- Optional: your license number on the website application, job texts, device notifications, location access (with the effect described in Section 7.5), a business description, references, and ratings of homeowners. You can provide or withdraw these at any time without affecting your eligibility.
3.13 Sensitive information
We do not ask for, and do not want, information about your race or ethnic origin, religion, health, sex life or sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, citizenship or immigration status, or genetic or biometric data. We do not use face recognition. If you tell us about a disability so that we can provide an accommodation, or a Report involves an injury, we use that information only as strictly necessary for that purpose. Your background check report may contain criminal history, which we handle only as described in Section 5.
3.14 What we do not collect
We do not collect copies or numbers of your government ID, your date of birth, your Social Security or taxpayer number, your full bank account number, a credit report, your medical records, or biometric information. We do not drug test Pros, ask about your health or medical history, or collect information about your citizenship or immigration status. We do not track your location when you are not on an active job.
3.15 Information about technicians
If your business names a technician to Strech, we collect:
- from the business: the technician's name, mobile phone number, email address and trade, the date the business named them, and the jobs the business assigns to them;
- through vetting: the same information about the technician that Sections 3.2 to 3.6 describe for a Pro, collected in the same way and with the same limits, including that we never copy, photograph or scan their ID, that Strech takes one profile photo with their agreement, that Strech checks any license they hold on the official source, and that Checkr prepares any background check with their own written authorization;
- when they use the Pro App: their sign-in details, job records, status taps, door check results, photos and messages, and their device's location during an active job, as Sections 3.9, 6 and 7 describe; and
- our decision: whether we approved the technician, with the date and the name of the person who decided, and any later pause, suspension or withdrawal of that approval, with the reasons.
We do not collect payout or tax information from a technician. Payouts for jobs a technician does go to the business, as Section 14 describes.
4 How we use information to vet you
Homeowners let Pros into their homes because Strech checks every Pro before activation. This Section explains how we use your information in each vetting step. Every step is done by a person, and every result is recorded with the date and the name of the person who checked it. The same steps, and Section 5, apply to each technician a Pro's business names to Strech, as Section 2.3 explains.
4.1 Application
We use your application to contact you about it, to arrange your welcome call, to understand your business, including the size of your team, and to decide whether to start vetting you: whether you offer a trade and services we accept, whether you serve our area, and whether you have the experience we require. A base point outside our service area, or fewer years in the trade than we require, is noted for review, not an automatic rejection.
4.2 Phone screen
A Strech staff member calls you to confirm your application, your licenses and insurance, your availability, and how you work. We use your answers to prepare the license and insurance checks.
4.3 Licenses
We check each license ourselves on the official website or with the issuing authority, never through a link or document you send. We compare the name, class, status and expiry date, and save the result page. We use the result to decide which job types you may be offered. You are offered work that requires a license only if we have verified the matching license.
4.4 Insurance
We use your certificate and endorsements, received from your agent, to confirm that your policy is current, meets our minimum limits, and names Strech as an additional insured. We confirm with your agent or insurer that it is in force. We use your auto insurance details to confirm you are insured for driving to jobs.
4.5 In-person meeting and safety briefing
We use the in-person meeting to confirm that you are who you say you are, that you are 18 or older, that your ID is current, and that your name matches your licenses and insurance. We use our notes about your tools, vehicle, conduct and ability to work in English, and your initials on the safety briefing, to decide whether you are ready to work in homeowners' homes.
4.6 Training
We use your training record to confirm that you completed every lesson and answered every question correctly, and to keep proof that you signed the training sign-off statements. If the statements change, we use your record to ask you to sign the new version before your next job.
4.7 Background check
We use the background check, ordered last and only after a written conditional approval, as described in Section 5.
4.8 Activation decision
A Strech manager decides whether to activate you, using the results of every check. You are activated only when every check is passed and you have signed the contractor agreement. You are told the decision by phone and in writing. If you are declined, you are told the reason and how to appeal.
4.9 Keeping your status current
After activation, we use your license, insurance and ID expiry dates to remind you before they expire, and we recheck your licenses regularly on the official sources. We rescreen your background once a year, with your authorization. If a license or policy lapses, the affected work is paused until we confirm it is current again.
4.10 Reapplying
If your application is declined, or you withdraw it, you may apply again after the reason has been addressed, for example once a license is renewed or a required certificate is in place. When you reapply, we may use the records we kept from your earlier application, within the periods in Section 16, so that you do not have to repeat steps that are still current, and so that we can see whether the earlier reason has been addressed. We repeat any step whose result has expired.
5 Background checks
5.1 Why we check
Pros work inside people's homes. A background check is one of the steps we use to protect homeowners, Pros and the public. It is never the only factor, and no result leads to an automatic rejection.
5.2 When we check
We order a background check only after we have given you a written conditional approval based on every other vetting step. We do not ask about criminal history on the application or before that conditional approval.
5.3 Your authorization and your rights
Before we order a background check, we give you a clear written disclosure, in a document that consists only of that disclosure, that a background check report may be obtained for the purpose of deciding whether you may provide services through Strech. We obtain your written authorization. We give you a copy of "A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act", and any summary of rights that your state requires. We follow these steps whether or not the law requires them for independent businesses, because we think they are right.
5.4 Who prepares the report
Checkr, Inc. is a consumer reporting agency that prepares the report. You give your Social Security number, date of birth and other identifying information directly to Checkr through its own secure form, under Checkr's privacy policy. Strech never asks you for these and never stores them. You may contact Checkr directly to see what is in your report and to dispute anything that is inaccurate or incomplete.
5.5 What the report may include
Depending on the screening package and what the law allows, the report may include: confirmation of your identity and Social Security number; your current and past addresses and known names; national, state and county criminal records; sex offender registry records; and checks against government watch lists. We do not order credit reports, and we do not order motor vehicle records unless we tell you first and obtain your authorization.
5.6 How we decide
A clear result is a pass. Any other result is reviewed individually by two Strech managers, who consider the nature and seriousness of the offense, the time that has passed since it happened, its relevance to working inside people's homes, and any information you give us about it, such as evidence of rehabilitation. They also consider any evidence that the record is inaccurate. They record their decision and reasons in writing. We follow the Montgomery County Fair Criminal Record Screening Standards. Under them, we do not ask about, search for or consider: arrests or charges that did not lead to a conviction, unless a charge is still pending; a first conviction for trespass, disturbing the peace or second-degree assault; a misdemeanor conviction where three years have passed since the conviction and since the end of any incarceration; or any record that is confidential, shielded or expunged under Maryland law. We also do not consider any record that federal or Maryland law does not allow a consumer reporting agency to report.
5.7 Before any adverse decision
If we are considering declining, suspending or removing you based in whole or in part on your background check report, we first send you a pre-adverse action notice, a copy of the report, and the Summary of Rights. The notice explains which part of the report we are relying on and why. We then wait at least seven days, and never fewer than five business days, so that you can review the report, dispute anything with Checkr, and give us any information you want us to consider, including evidence that the record is inaccurate or evidence of rehabilitation. We consider everything you send before we decide. If we then make the adverse decision, we send you a final notice that names Checkr and gives its contact details, explains that Checkr did not make the decision and cannot tell you why it was made, and explains your right to a free copy of your report within 60 days and to dispute its accuracy or completeness with Checkr.
5.8 Where reports are kept
Background check reports stay in Checkr's secure system. Strech does not download, print or copy them into its own systems. Strech records only the date ordered, the status, the date completed, our decision, the people who made it, and the reasons. Only the Strech managers responsible for vetting can view reports in Checkr, and only while they need them for a decision or an appeal.
5.9 Rescreening
Every active Pro is rescreened once a year, under the authorization you gave and any new authorization the law requires. Rescreening follows the same steps as the first check.
5.10 Use limits
We use background check reports only to decide whether you may provide services through Strech, and to defend that decision. We never use them for any other purpose, never share them with homeowners, and never sell them.
6 Your information at each step of a job
This Section follows one job from offer to payout, so you can see exactly who sees your information and when.
6.1 Offers
When a homeowner books a job that matches your trade, services, verified licenses, service area and availability, we may offer it to you. The offer shows the job type, the homeowner's description and photos, the arrival window, the price range, and the town and ZIP code. You may accept or pass, or let the offer expire, and we record your response. Passing on an offer is your right as an independent business. Some offers come from a homeowner's sensor alert, as Section 6.10 explains.
6.2 Acceptance
When you accept, you receive the homeowner's first name, the service address, any access notes, and the first name of the adult who will be home (the "Responsible Adult"). The homeowner receives your name, business name, profile photo, trade, license number, and your average rating. If your business assigns a technician to the job, the homeowner also receives the technician's name and profile photo, and, where the work requires a license held by the person who does it, the technician's license number, before the visit, so that they know who to expect. The homeowner does not receive your phone number, email address or home address, or a technician's.
6.3 On the way
When you tap "On my way", the Pro App begins sharing your device's location with Strech, as described in Section 7, and we tell the homeowner that you are on the way and when you are expected. Strech staff may call you if you appear late or your location stops updating.
6.4 Arrival and the door check
When you tap "I have arrived", a Strech staff member calls the homeowner or Responsible Adult to confirm that you showed ID, that your name matches the booked Pro, or the technician named for the job, and that an adult is home. We record the result. If the homeowner cannot confirm the match, we treat it as an emergency.
6.5 The work
You may photograph the work area, including any existing damage, before you start and when you finish. If the job will cost more than the accepted range, you record the change in the Pro App, and the homeowner approves or declines it. We record each step.
6.6 Completion
When you mark the job done, your location sharing for that job stops, the homeowner's card is charged for the approved amount, and Stripe pays you as described in Section 14. Strech staff may call the homeowner the same day to confirm the job is complete. The homeowner may rate you and leave a review.
6.7 After the job
Your access to the homeowner's address, access notes and messages ends when the job closes, except for the records your license or the law requires you to keep. Strech keeps the job record for the periods in Section 16.
6.8 Cancellations, no-shows and Reports
If you cancel, do not arrive within the window, or a Report is made about a job, we record what happened, when and why, and we use it as described in Sections 8 and 11.
6.9 Helpers
You may bring a helper to a job only if the helper works for your business, has been individually registered with and approved by Strech, and is listed on the job before you arrive. Registering a helper means the helper goes through the vetting steps in Section 4 that Strech requires for helpers, and is covered by this Policy as an applicant or Pro. When you list a helper on a job, we record the helper's name with the job, and we tell the homeowner the helper's name so that they know who to expect. A technician may bring a helper on the same terms.
6.10 Jobs that come from a sensor alert
Some homeowners have Strech sensors in their homes, such as leak sensors, which alert the homeowner in the Strech app when they detect a problem, for example water under a sink (a "sensor alert"). When a homeowner books a job after a sensor alert, the job can be linked to that alert. The offer shows the job in the same way as any other offer under Section 6.1. Once you accept it, the job also includes the details needed for the job: which device raised the alert, where in the home it is, for example "kitchen sink", and when the alert happened, together with the homeowner's description and photos, as in any offer under Section 6.1 (the "alert details"). We share only the alert details needed for the job. Alert details are information about the homeowner and their home. You must keep them confidential and use them only for that job, as Section 19 explains. The link between the job and the alert becomes part of the job record described in Section 3.9.
7 Location
7.1 When we collect it
The Pro App collects your device's precise location only while you are on an active job: from the moment you tap "On my way" until you mark the job done or the job is canceled. It does not collect your location when you are not on an active job, when you are only available for offers, or when the Pro App is closed. If your device asks whether to allow location only while using the app, that setting is enough, but the Pro App must be open for location to update.
7.2 Why we collect it
We use your location during an active job to estimate your arrival time and tell the homeowner when to expect you; to let Strech staff confirm you are on the way and help if you are delayed or lost contact; to confirm that you arrived at the right address; to protect you and the homeowner in an emergency; and to resolve disputes about whether and when a visit happened.
7.3 Your base point
To decide which jobs to offer you, we use the base point and travel radius you set in your profile, not your device's location. You can change them at any time.
7.4 Who sees it
Strech staff monitoring the job see your location. Homeowners do not see your live location or a map of your movements; they see your status and expected arrival time. We may share your location with emergency services if someone may be in danger.
7.5 Your choice
You may turn off location access in your device settings at any time. If you do, Strech staff will call you for updates during the job instead, and you will need to confirm your arrival by phone. Repeatedly turning location off during jobs may mean we cannot offer you jobs that require monitoring.
7.6 How long we keep it
We keep detailed location points from a job for up to 12 months after the job, and longer only if they are needed for a Report, claim or dispute. After that, we keep only the times you marked "On my way", "I have arrived" and done, with the job record.
7.7 Shared and business phones
The Pro App collects location from the device signed in to the account used for the job, so use the Pro App only on a phone that you carry during the job. A technician uses the Pro App signed in as that technician, on a phone the technician carries, so that location, status taps and the door check relate to the person at the home. If your business provides a phone that others also use, sign out of the Pro App when you finish a job, so that no one else's movements are recorded on your account and no one else can see homeowner information. Never let another person carry your signed-in phone to a job, and never send anyone to a job in your place other than an approved technician assigned to that job. Either would be a serious breach of the Pro Terms.
8 How we use information
8.1 To decide whether you may join and stay
We use the information in Sections 3 to 5 to vet you, to activate you, to keep your status current, and to decide whether to suspend or remove you, as described in Section 11.
8.2 To offer you jobs
We use your trade, services, verified licenses, base point, travel radius, availability, reliability and ratings to decide which jobs to offer you, and in what order, as described in Section 8.8.
8.3 To run jobs safely
We use your job records, location during active jobs and communications to confirm that jobs happen as booked, that the right Pro arrives, that an adult is home, and to help you or the homeowner if something goes wrong.
8.4 To pay you
We use your job and payment records to calculate what each job pays, to instruct Stripe to pay you, and to answer your questions about payments.
8.5 To support you and resolve disputes
We use information to answer your questions, investigate Reports and complaints, resolve disputes with homeowners, and handle insurance claims.
8.6 To maintain quality and trust
We use ratings, reviews, Reports, cancellations, no-shows and job outcomes to monitor reliability and quality across Strech, to identify Pros who would benefit from more training, and to protect homeowners from Pros who do not meet our standards.
8.7 To communicate with you
We use your contact information to send offers, job updates, payout notices, reminders about expiring documents, changes to our terms and this Policy, and, where you allow it, news about Strech.
8.8 Automated processing
Matching. Our matching system decides which Pros to offer a job to, and in what order. It considers whether you offer the service and hold any license it requires, your distance from the job based on your base point, your availability, your reliability and rating, and whether there is a past Report between you and that homeowner. It does not use your race, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability or any other characteristic protected by law. Strech staff watch every job and may offer it to a Pro directly.
Pay. What a job pays is based on the job, the price the homeowner accepted, any approved change, and the fees in the Pro Terms. It is not set based on your personal characteristics.
Fraud and integrity checks. Our systems and Stripe check sign-ins, payouts and job activity for signs of fraud or misuse, such as an account used on many devices or a job marked done far from the address. A flag leads to review by a person, not an automatic decision.
Expiry reminders. Our systems track the expiry dates of your licenses, insurance and ID, and alert Strech staff and you before they expire. A lapsed credential pauses the affected work only after a person confirms it.
8.9 Artificial intelligence services
Some service providers we use offer features that rely on machine learning or artificial intelligence, for example to detect fraud, classify text, or help our staff summarize a Report or draft a reply. When we use them, the provider processes personal information only on our instructions, under a contract that requires confidentiality and security and does not allow it to use your personal information to train its own models for other customers. We never use artificial intelligence to make a decision to decline, suspend or remove you.
8.10 Human decisions and your right to an explanation
Every decision to decline your application, suspend you, remove you, or withhold a payout is made by a person at Strech. You are told the decision and the main reasons in writing, and you may ask to see the information the decision was based on, as described in Section 11.5, and to correct anything inaccurate.
8.11 To improve Strech and for research
We use information, wherever possible in de-identified or aggregated form, to improve matching, scheduling, training, safety procedures, the Pro App, and our services, and for reporting to our board and investors. We may use information about visits, such as job types, times, prices, arrival times and outcomes, to build and improve our own tools, including tools that estimate arrival times or rank which Pros to offer a job to. Wherever practicable, we use de-identified information for this. We do not use the content of your messages, your photos or your vetting records to train artificial intelligence models, and we do not allow our service providers to do so.
8.12 To meet legal duties and protect rights
We use information to keep records the law requires, to meet tax, accounting, insurance and regulatory duties, to respond to lawful requests, to establish, exercise and defend legal claims, to enforce the Pro Terms, and to protect the rights, property and safety of homeowners, Pros, Strech and the public.
8.13 New purposes
We will not use personal information for a purpose that is not reasonably necessary to, or compatible with, the purposes in this Policy without first telling you and, where the law requires, getting your consent.
9 How we disclose information
We disclose personal information only as described in this Section and in Section 10.
9.1 Homeowners
Homeowners whose job you accept see your name, business name, profile photo, trade, license number and average rating, so they can confirm who is coming and check your license. If your business assigns a technician to the job, they also see the information about the technician described in Section 6.2. They also see your status and expected arrival time during the job, the photos you take of their home, the notes you add to their job, and your messages. Homeowners who are only considering a booking may see your business name, trade, rating and the services you offer. Homeowners never receive your phone number, email address, home address, background check information, insurance policy number or payout information from Strech.
9.2 The Responsible Adult
If the Responsible Adult is not the homeowner who booked, we may share with that adult your name, expected arrival time and arrival status, so that they can receive you.
9.3 Service providers
We use companies that process personal information on our behalf and under our instructions ("service providers"). They provide cloud hosting, databases and file storage; website hosting, including the form service that receives applications made on our website; online scheduling for welcome calls; sign-in and account security; text-message delivery, email and staff email; document storage for vetting records; maps; customer support tools; security, fraud prevention and crash reporting; artificial intelligence features, as described in Section 8.9; and professional services such as accounting and auditing. Each is bound by a written contract that limits its use of personal information to providing its service to Strech, requires confidentiality and appropriate security, flows these duties down to any subcontractor, and requires it to delete or return the information when the service ends.
9.4 Checkr
We give Checkr your name, email address and the screening package we request, so that it can invite you to its form and prepare your report. Checkr is a consumer reporting agency regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and handles your information under that law and its own privacy policy.
9.5 Stripe
We give Stripe your name, email address, business information and the details of each payment, so that it can set up your payout account and pay you. Stripe collects your identity, tax and bank information directly, and acts under its own privacy policy for identity verification, tax reporting, fraud prevention and its own legal duties.
9.6 Insurers, claims administrators and advisers
If a Report or claim involves a job you did, we may give the relevant information, including your name, business, insurer, policy number, job record, photos and communications, to our insurers, your insurer, insurance brokers, claims administrators, lawyers and other professional advisers, under a duty of confidentiality. Because Strech is named as an additional insured on your policy, we may also contact your insurer to confirm your coverage.
9.7 Licensing and regulatory authorities
If we have reason to believe that work was done without a required license, or that a licensed professional broke the rules of their license in a way that endangered a homeowner, we may report it to the licensing authority, such as the Maryland Home Improvement Commission, a state licensing board or WSSC Water. Where a regulator lawfully asks us for information, we respond as described in Section 10.
9.8 Emergency services
We disclose personal information to police, fire, ambulance or other emergency services when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to prevent death, serious injury or serious harm to property. This can include your name, phone number, location during the job, vehicle details if we hold them, and the job details.
9.9 Business transfers
If Strech is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets or similar transaction, personal information may be disclosed to the other parties and their advisers during review of the transaction, under confidentiality obligations, and may be transferred as part of the transaction. Any successor must honor this Policy for information collected under it, or give you notice, and any choices the law requires, before your information becomes subject to a different policy. Background check reports are never transferred, because they stay in Checkr's system.
If Strech stops operating. If Strech stops providing the Pro App and no successor takes over under this Section, after any final payouts are made, we will tell you before the Pro App stops working, give you a reasonable opportunity to download your information, and then delete or de-identify personal information, except the records the law requires us to keep, which we will keep securely until their periods end.
9.10 With your consent or at your direction
We disclose personal information to others when you ask us to or agree to it, for example if you ask us to confirm to another company that you are an active Pro, or give a reference.
9.11 De-identified and aggregated information
We may disclose information that has been de-identified or aggregated so that it cannot reasonably be linked to you, such as the number of active Pros by trade or average arrival times. We keep it in de-identified form, do not attempt to re-identify it, and require any recipient by contract not to re-identify it.
9.12 What we do not disclose
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for targeted advertising. We do not sell or share your phone number with any third party to send you marketing or promotional text messages. We do not give homeowners, other Pros or other platforms your contact details, background check information or payout information. We do not give references about you to other companies without your consent, except as the law requires.
10 Law enforcement and government requests
10.1 Our approach
We disclose personal information to police, courts and government agencies only when the law requires it, when there is an emergency, or when you ask us to. Every request is reviewed by a member of Strech management and, where needed, by our lawyers, before anything is disclosed.
10.2 The legal process we require
Except in an emergency, we require valid legal process before disclosing personal information to a government agency: a subpoena or equivalent process for basic account information, such as name, contact details and the dates you joined and were active; a court order or search warrant for job, location and payment records; and a search warrant for the contents of messages, photos and Reports. We review each request to confirm that it is valid and no broader than the law allows, we may object to, narrow or challenge a request, and we disclose only what it lawfully requires.
10.3 Emergencies and preservation
If a government agency tells us that there is an emergency involving danger of death or serious physical injury, we may disclose the information we believe is needed to address it without legal process, and we record every such disclosure. If an agency asks us to preserve records while it obtains legal process, we may keep a copy of existing records for 90 days, and up to 90 more days if renewed. We disclose preserved records only on valid legal process.
10.4 Notice to you
Our policy is to notify you of a government request for your information before we disclose it, so that you can object. We do not give notice when the law, a court order or a non-disclosure order prohibits it, when there is an emergency, or when notice would risk injury, death or the destruction of evidence. When the reason for delay ends, we give notice where the law allows.
10.5 Immigration enforcement
We do not sell personal information to any government agency. We do not disclose personal information for civil immigration enforcement unless we are legally compelled to, and where the law allows, we require a warrant or order issued by a court before doing so.
10.6 Tax and regulatory reporting
Some reporting to government is required by law without a request, such as tax information reporting by Stripe. Section 14 explains this.
10.7 How agencies contact us
Government agencies must send requests in writing to info@strech.ai with the subject "Legal process", or serve them on Strech's registered agent. Emergency requests made by phone must be confirmed in writing.
11 Reports, suspension, removal and appeals
11.1 Reports about you
A homeowner, Responsible Adult, another Pro, a member of the public or Strech staff may make a safety concern, complaint, damage claim or other report about a job (a "Report"). We record what we are told, the time, the people involved and the steps we take.
11.2 Your side
Before we decide anything about a Report involving you, except where we must act at once to protect someone, we tell you what the Report is about and ask for your account. We share with you only what you need to respond, and we do not give you the reporting person's contact details. You may give us any information, photos or documents you want us to consider.
11.3 Pausing jobs
If a Report raises a possible risk to safety, or a license or insurance policy appears to have lapsed, Strech staff may pause new offers and jobs to you at once while a manager reviews it. A pause is not a finding against you. We tell you that jobs are paused and why, and a manager decides as soon as reasonably possible.
11.4 Suspension and removal
Only a Strech manager may suspend or remove a Pro. The reasons that can lead to suspension or removal are set out in the Pro Terms. They include a lapsed license or insurance policy, a background rescreen result after the steps in Section 5, a serious Report, false documents, hidden damage, unlicensed work, bringing an unlisted helper, sending anyone to a job who is not an approved technician assigned to it, renegotiating the price at the home, or arranging work or payment outside Strech. A Pro who leaves a job because it was unsafe is never penalized for doing so.
11.5 Notice, reasons and records
If we suspend or remove you, we tell you in writing: the decision, the main reasons, which rule in the Pro Terms it relates to, how long a suspension will last or what you need to do to end it, and how to appeal. On request, we give you the records the decision was based on, such as the job records, ratings, Reports and staff notes. We may withhold or redact information that would identify the person who made a Report, put someone at risk, or reveal legally privileged material, and we will tell you if we do.
11.6 Appeals
You may appeal any decision to decline your application, suspend you or remove you. Email info@strech.ai with the subject "Pro appeal" within 30 days of the decision, and tell us why you believe the decision is wrong. The Chief Executive Officer of Strech, or another manager who was not involved in the original decision, reviews the appeal, considers any new information you give, and answers in writing within 30 days. For decisions based on a background check, the steps in Section 5.7 come first.
11.7 Reports you make and safety exits
You may make a Report about a homeowner, a home or a job, through the Pro App, by email or by calling the support line. If you are in danger, leave first and call 911, then tell Strech. We record what you tell us, and we may tell the homeowner what the Report is about so that we can hear their side, without giving them your contact details. We may use Reports you make to protect other Pros, including by deciding whether a homeowner may keep using Strech. Leaving a job because it is unsafe is never held against you, and a safety exit is recorded as such, not as a cancellation.
11.8 Information kept after removal
If we remove you from Strech, we keep the minimum information needed to prevent you from creating a new account, to defend our decision, and to protect homeowners, for as long as those purposes require, even if you ask us to delete your account. Section 16.4 explains this.
11.9 Recordings
We do not record phone calls with Pros, and we do not record audio or video during jobs. You agree not to record audio or video in a homeowner's home. Maryland law requires the consent of every party to record a conversation.
11.10 Homeowners' security cameras
Many homes have doorbell or security cameras that may record you while you work. Strech does not control them and does not receive their recordings, unless a homeowner sends one to us to support a Report, in which case we handle it as part of the Report and tell you about it under Section 11.2. We ask homeowners to tell us about indoor cameras, and we pass that on to you before the job when we know it. If you are concerned about a camera, tell the homeowner or Strech.
12 Our commitments to you
- No sale. We do not sell personal information, and we have not sold it in the past 12 months.
- No targeted advertising. We do not use or disclose personal information for targeted advertising. The Pro App contains no advertising networks, advertising identifiers, or third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- No ID copies. We never copy, photograph or scan your government ID, and we do not record your ID number or date of birth.
- No taxpayer numbers. Your Social Security number, taxpayer number and full bank account number go to Stripe and Checkr, not to us.
- No credit reports. We never order a credit report about you.
- No biometrics. We do not collect face scans, fingerprints or other biometric information, and we do not use face recognition.
- Location only on jobs. We collect your device's location only during an active job.
- Background reports stay with Checkr. We do not copy background check reports into our systems, and we never share them with homeowners.
- No contact details to homeowners. We never give homeowners your phone number, email address or home address.
- No marketing texts. We do not send marketing or promotional texts, and we never sell or share your phone number for anyone else to send them.
- No recordings. We do not record calls with Pros or record audio or video during jobs.
- Human decisions, with reasons. A person decides every application, suspension and removal. You get the reasons in writing and can appeal.
13 Texts, calls, emails and notifications
13.1 Job texts are optional
When you apply, you may tick a box, which starts unchecked, to receive text messages from Strech about job assignments, schedule changes and visit reminders. Agreeing to texts is never a condition of applying, being activated or receiving jobs; without texts, you receive offers and updates in the Pro App and by phone. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You may reply ACCEPT or PASS to a job offer sent by text. If you tick the box on the website application, we keep the exact wording you agreed to and the date and time you agreed, as a record of your consent.
13.2 Stopping texts
Reply STOP to stop texts at any time, or tell us in any other reasonable way, such as by email to info@strech.ai, in the Pro App, or on a call. We honor every opt-out as soon as practicable, and always within 10 business days. After you reply STOP, we may send one text confirming that you have opted out. Reply START or UNSTOP to turn texts back on, or HELP for help. Our texts do not contain links or phone numbers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
13.3 Mobile information
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Information sharing with service providers that deliver our texts and provide customer support on our behalf is permitted, and those providers may not use it for any other purpose.
13.4 Recruiting messages
If Strech contacts you before you apply, for example by email about joining Strech, we use only business contact information that you or your business have made publicly available, and we tell you how we found you. We do not send recruiting texts to anyone who has not agreed to receive texts from us. You may ask us to stop contacting you at any time, and we will record your request.
13.5 Calls
Strech staff may call you from the Strech support line about your application, vetting, an offer, an active job, a Report, a payout or an expiring document. Calls are not recorded. Staff record the outcome of a call in our notes.
13.6 Email and notifications
We send emails about your application, vetting decisions, activation, payouts, expiring documents, Reports, changes to the Pro Terms and this Policy, and answers to your requests. These are part of the service, and you cannot opt out of them while you are an applicant or active Pro. If we send news or offers, each email includes a working unsubscribe link and our postal address, honored within 10 business days. Our emails do not contain tracking pixels, and we do not track whether you open them or which links you click. If you allow notifications on your device, the Pro App sends notices about offers, jobs and messages through Apple's and Google's notification services, which receive a device token and the notification content needed to deliver it; you can turn them off in your device settings.
13.7 Messages in the Pro App
Messages between you and homeowners, and between you and Strech, are stored on our systems. Strech staff may review them to keep jobs safe, investigate Reports and fraud, resolve disputes and enforce the Pro Terms. Do not use messages to arrange work or payment outside Strech, or to share anything you would not want Strech staff to see.
14 Payouts and taxes
14.1 How payouts work
Payouts are made through Stripe Connect. When you set up your payout account, you enter your identity, tax and bank information into Stripe's own forms. Stripe verifies your identity as financial laws require, holds your bank details, and pays you directly. Strech receives your payout account status, the last four digits of your bank account, and the amount, date and status of each payment and payout. Strech does not store your Social Security number, taxpayer number or full bank account number.
14.2 Tax reporting
Where the law requires, Stripe issues tax forms, such as Form 1099-K, for payments made to you, and files them with the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities. Those forms include the taxpayer number you gave Stripe. You can see and download your tax forms in your Stripe account. If Strech itself is ever required to issue you a tax form, we will ask for your taxpayer information through a secure process, use it only for that purpose, and tell you how we protect it.
14.3 Payment records
We keep a record of what each job paid, Strech's fees, any bonuses or adjustments, and payout status, so that you can see your earnings, so that we can answer questions and resolve disputes, and so that we can meet tax and accounting requirements.
14.4 Holds and adjustments
If a payment is disputed by a homeowner's bank, or a fraud or compliance check flags a payout, Stripe or Strech may hold the affected payout while a person reviews it. We tell you about the hold and the reason, unless the law prohibits it.
14.5 Earnings statements
For each job, the Pro App shows the price the homeowner accepted, any approved change, Strech's fee, any bonus or adjustment, and the amount paid to you, with the date and status of the payout. You can see your earnings statements for as long as we keep job and payment records under Section 16, and you can ask us for a copy at any time. If you believe a payment is wrong, tell us within the time set out in the Pro Terms, and we will review the job and payment records with you.
14.6 Other platforms and income
We do not ask you to tell us about your other customers, other platforms you work with, or your income outside Strech, except where you choose to tell us that you serve other platforms as part of confirming that you are an independent business. We do not share your Strech earnings with anyone except Stripe, tax authorities as the law requires, and our professional advisers.
15 Photos, ratings, reviews and your profile
15.1 Your profile photo
Your profile photo is shown to homeowners so that they can recognize you at the door. It is a safety feature, which is why we take it at the in-person meeting with your agreement and keep it current. We do not use your photo for face recognition. We do not use it in advertising without your written permission. A technician's profile photo is taken and used in the same way, and is shown to the homeowner of each job the technician is assigned to.
15.2 Photos you take at jobs
Photograph only the work area and any existing damage, before you start and when you finish. Do not photograph people, especially children, documents, mail, screens, valuables or anything unrelated to the job. Photos are shared with the homeowner and Strech and used to document the work, resolve disputes and claims, and monitor quality. We may remove photos that break these rules.
15.3 Ratings and reviews of you
After a job, the homeowner may rate you and write a review. Your average rating is shown to homeowners. We do not remove, hide or rank reviews of you based on whether they are positive or negative. We may remove a review, under rules we apply equally to all reviews, if it contains threats, harassment, hate speech, sexual content, personal information about you beyond your name and business, content that is false or misleading, content unrelated to the job, or content that breaks the law. If you believe a review of you breaks these rules, tell us and we will review it.
15.4 Ratings you give
You may rate homeowners after a job. Your ratings and comments are shared with Strech, and may be used to protect other Pros and to decide whether a homeowner may keep using Strech. Homeowners and other Pros do not see the individual ratings you give.
15.5 Public license information
Your license records are published by the licensing authorities, and anyone can look them up. We show your license number to homeowners so that they can check it themselves, and we check it regularly on the official source. If the official source shows your license as lapsed, suspended, revoked or disciplined, we may pause the affected work and contact you. If you believe an official record about you is wrong, you need to correct it with the licensing authority; once it is corrected, tell us and we will check it again.
15.6 Your business information
You may choose to show your business name, services and a short description to homeowners. You are responsible for that content and for making sure it is accurate and lawful.
16 How long we keep information
16.1 Our principle
We keep personal information only as long as it is reasonably necessary for the purposes in this Policy, and then delete or de-identify it. We consider why we collected it, how sensitive it is, the risk of harm from keeping it, whether we need it for safety, claims or disputes, and the periods the law requires.
16.2 Retention periods
In general:
- Account and profile information, including your contact details, base point, services and profile photo, is kept while you are an applicant or active Pro, and deleted or de-identified within 90 days after you leave Strech or your application ends, except as described below.
- Website applications and welcome-call bookings are treated as application information and kept on the same schedule as account and profile information. The record of your confirmation on the website application that you are 18 or older and agree to the Pro Terms is kept with your vetting records.
- Information about technicians is kept on the same schedule as the matching information about a Pro, counted from when the technician stops working for the business or is no longer approved, or from when the business stops using Strech, whichever comes first.
- Vetting records, including license and insurance results, phone screen and in-person meeting notes, the safety briefing and the activation decision, are kept while you are active and for 3 years after you leave Strech or your application ends.
- Background check decision records, including the dates, status, our decision, the people who made it and the reasons, and copies of any pre-adverse and adverse action notices, are kept for up to 5 years after the decision, which is the longest period in which a claim about a background check can generally be brought. The reports themselves stay in Checkr's system under Checkr's retention rules.
- Training records are kept while you are active and for 3 years after you leave.
- Job and payment records are kept for up to 7 years after the job, to meet tax and accounting requirements and to cover the periods in which claims about a job can be made.
- Report records are kept for up to 7 years after the Report is closed, or longer if a claim or proceeding is pending.
- Detailed location points are kept for up to 12 months after the job, as described in Section 7.6.
- Photos and messages are kept for up to 3 years after the job, the general period in which a claim about the work can be brought in Maryland.
- Records of text-message consent and opt-outs, including the wording and time of any consent given on the website application, are kept for up to 5 years after you give or withdraw consent.
- Device, crash and security logs are generally kept for up to 13 months.
- Records of privacy requests and appeals are kept for up to 3 years after they are answered.
16.3 When you leave
You may stop using Strech and close your account at any time. When you do, we deactivate your account and stop offering you jobs, and we delete or de-identify your information on the schedule above. We keep the records we need for tax, accounting, safety, claims, disputes or legal duties until their periods end, and use them only for those purposes.
16.4 Longer retention
We may keep information longer when it is needed for an open Report, claim, dispute, chargeback, investigation or audit; when we are subject to a legal hold or preservation request; when the law requires it; or, if you were removed from Strech for safety, fraud or serious misconduct, for as long as needed to prevent you from returning and to defend our decision.
16.5 Backups and de-identified information
Deleted information may remain in backups until they are overwritten on their regular schedule. We do not restore information from backups except to recover from a system failure, and if we do, we delete again anything that should have been deleted. De-identified and aggregated information may be kept without a set limit.
17 How we protect information
17.1 Our security program
We maintain reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of personal information, appropriate to its sensitivity and the risks. Vetting information receives the strictest controls. Our program includes:
- encrypting personal information in transit, and protecting stored information with encryption and access controls;
- keeping vetting records in a restricted folder that only the Strech managers responsible for vetting can open, through individual accounts;
- leaving background check reports in Checkr's system, and identity, tax and bank information in Stripe's system, rather than copying them;
- limiting access to the Strech staff and service providers who need it for their role, requiring confidentiality, and training staff on this Policy before they receive access;
- reviewing the security and privacy practices of service providers before we use them;
- monitoring our systems for misuse and security incidents; and
- reviewing our safeguards regularly and whenever we make a significant change.
17.2 Limits of security
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that personal information will never be accessed, disclosed, changed or destroyed without permission.
17.3 Your role
Keep your phone, email and sign-in codes secure, use a screen lock on your device, and tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account. Never let anyone else use your account, which is a serious breach of the Pro Terms. Strech staff will never ask you for your password, a sign-in code, your Social Security number or your bank details by text, email, phone or message.
17.4 If there is a breach
If a security breach compromises personal information, we act promptly to contain it, investigate it and reduce the harm, and we notify affected people and the authorities as the law requires. For Maryland residents, we notify as soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than 45 days after we discover or are notified of the breach, unless a law enforcement agency asks us to delay. Before we notify affected Maryland residents, we notify the Maryland Attorney General, as Maryland law requires. The notice to you explains what happened, what information was involved, what we are doing, and what you can do to protect yourself, and gives the contact details of the major consumer reporting agencies, the Federal Trade Commission and the Maryland Attorney General, where you can get information about preventing identity theft. If a breach affects 1,000 or more people, we also notify the major consumer reporting agencies, as the law requires.
17.5 If your account is compromised
If you think someone has used your account, contact us at once. We will secure the account, pause offers, review recent activity with you, and work with Stripe to protect your payouts.
17.6 Lost or stolen phone
If the phone you use for the Pro App is lost or stolen, tell us at once. We will sign you out of the Pro App, pause offers until you sign in on a new device, and help you secure your account. Homeowner information shown in the Pro App is removed from the device's view once you are signed out, but you should also use your phone provider's tools to lock or erase the device.
18 Your rights and choices
18.1 Choices in the Pro App
You can view and change your contact details, services, base point, travel radius, availability, job-text setting and notification settings at any time. You can see your job history, earnings, ratings and the status of your licenses and insurance. Some changes, such as adding a service that requires a license, take effect only after we verify the new information.
18.2 Closing your account
You can close your account at any time:
- in the Pro App, under Profile, by choosing "Delete account";
- on the web, through the account-deletion page linked from the Pro App's store listing and from this Policy; or
- by email to info@strech.ai with the subject "Delete my account".
If you have an active job, you need to finish it or release it first. Section 16.3 explains what happens to your information. Your Stripe account is separate, and you can close it with Stripe.
18.3 Your privacy rights
Subject to verification and the limits the law allows, you have the right to:
- Know and access: confirm whether we process your personal information, and access it.
- Portability: obtain a copy of the personal information you gave us or we hold about you, in a portable and, where technically feasible, readily usable format.
- Correction: correct inaccurate personal information. If a license, insurance or vetting record is wrong, tell us and we will check it again against the official source.
- Deletion: delete personal information you provided or that we obtained about you, unless the law requires or allows us to keep it, as described in Section 16.
- Third-party list: obtain a list of the categories of third parties, or where your state's law provides it, the specific third parties, to which we have disclosed your personal information.
- Opt out: opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. We do none of these, but you may still make the request, and we will record and apply it.
- Explanation and review: ask us to explain a decision about you, to see the information it was based on, and to reconsider it, as described in Sections 8.10, 11.5 and 11.6.
- Withdraw consent: withdraw any consent you have given, as easily as you gave it. We stop the related processing as soon as practicable, and no later than 30 days after your request. Withdrawing consent to a required vetting step, such as a background check, means we cannot complete or continue your vetting.
For your background check report, you also have the rights described in Section 5, which you exercise with Checkr. For your identity, tax and bank information, you exercise your rights with Stripe.
We give these rights to every applicant, Pro and technician, wherever you live, including where a state privacy law does not cover information about people acting in a business capacity.
18.4 How to make a request
Email info@strech.ai with the subject "Privacy request", or use the support messages in the Pro App. Tell us which right you want to use. We verify requests using commercially reasonable methods, usually a one-time code sent to the email address or mobile number on your account, and we may ask for limited additional information, which we use only to verify you. We do not require verification for an opt-out request. You may use an authorized agent with your signed permission, and we may ask you to confirm your identity directly.
18.5 What a copy of your data includes
A copy includes, where we hold them: your account and profile details; your application; your vetting records and our decisions with reasons; your license and insurance records; your training record; the status and date of your background checks and our decisions (the reports themselves are available from Checkr); your job, offer and payment records; your ratings and reviews; Reports about jobs you did, with information that would identify the reporting person or put someone at risk removed; your messages; location points we still hold; your consent records; and the list of third parties described in Section 18.3. We may withhold information that the law allows or requires us to withhold, such as legally privileged material or information that would harm another person's rights, and we will tell you if we do.
18.6 Timing, fees and appeals
We respond within 45 days after we receive your request. If we reasonably need more time, we may extend this once by up to 45 more days and will tell you why within the first 45 days. We respond to one request per 12-month period free of charge; for manifestly unfounded, excessive, technically infeasible or repetitive requests, we may charge a reasonable fee or decline, and we will tell you why. If we decline a request, we explain why and how to appeal. To appeal, reply to our decision or email info@strech.ai with the subject "Privacy appeal". A manager who was not involved in the original decision reviews it, and we answer in writing within 60 days. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland at www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov or 410-528-8662, or the attorney general of the state where you live.
18.7 No retaliation
We will not decline your application, offer you fewer jobs, pay you less, or treat you differently in any other way because you exercised a privacy right, disputed your background check, made a complaint, or appealed a decision. Nothing in this Policy or the Pro Terms stops you from reporting a concern to a government agency or licensing authority.
18.8 Changes to your business
If your business changes, for example you form a company, change its name, sell it, or add a partner, tell us before your next job. We will update your records, check any new license or insurance policy in the new name, and ask the new business to sign the contractor agreement. We do not transfer your account, ratings or records to a buyer of your business without your written consent, except as the law requires.
18.9 Deceased Pros
If a Pro has died, the executor or administrator of the estate, or a close family member with legal authority, may ask us to close the account, to provide records of jobs and payouts for the estate, or to delete personal information. We will ask for reasonable proof of death and of authority. We keep the records described in Section 16 that the law requires, and we help the estate contact Stripe about any remaining payouts.
19 Your duties with homeowner information
When you accept a job, you receive personal information about the homeowner and their home. For a job that came from a sensor alert, this includes the alert details described in Section 6.10, and alert details you see in an offer are covered in the same way, whether or not you accept the job. That information belongs to the homeowner and is shared with you only so that you can do the job. As a condition of using Strech, you agree to:
- use homeowner information only to perform the job and communicate about it through Strech;
- keep alert details confidential and use them only for the job they came with;
- keep only the records your license or the law requires, such as job records for your license or tax purposes, and delete the rest when the job is closed;
- never contact a homeowner outside Strech for any other purpose, never return to a home outside a booked job, and never add a homeowner to a marketing list;
- never sell, publish or share homeowner information, except as the law requires;
- never record audio or video in a homeowner's home, and photograph only the work area and existing damage;
- keep homeowner information secure on your phone and in your records; and
- tell Strech at once if homeowner information you hold is lost, stolen or seen by someone it should not have been.
If you break these rules, we may suspend or remove you under Section 11, and you may be responsible to the homeowner under the law.
20 Accessibility and language
20.1 Accessibility
We want every Pro to be able to use the Pro App and understand this Policy, including Pros with disabilities. We design the Pro App and this Policy with the goal of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, where practicable. If you need this Policy, the training, or any vetting document in another format, such as large print, plain text, or read aloud by phone, contact us at info@strech.ai with the subject "Accessible format", and we will provide it at no cost. If you need an accommodation in the vetting process, such as more time for training or a different place for the in-person meeting, tell us and we will work with you. Information you give us about a disability is used only to provide the accommodation.
20.2 Language
The Pro App, training and this Policy are offered in English only. Strech requires Pros to be able to explain a job and use the Pro App in English, because homeowners and Strech staff communicate with Pros in English during jobs, including in emergencies. If you have difficulty understanding any part of this Policy, you may ask someone you trust to help you read it, or contact us, and a member of our staff will explain any part of it to you in plain English, by email or by phone. If we offer this Policy in another language in the future, the English version controls unless the law requires otherwise.
21 Where we process information
Strech operates only in the United States, and the Pro App is intended only for use in the United States. We store personal information in the United States. Some of our staff and service providers work from outside the United States and may access personal information remotely for the purposes in this Policy, under the same confidentiality, security and access rules. Vetting records and background check information are accessed only by the Strech managers responsible for vetting.
22 Third-party services and links
The Pro App works with services run by other companies, such as Checkr, Stripe, Calendly, Apple and Google sign-in, the app stores, and our map provider, and links to official licensing websites. Those companies collect information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of Checkr and Stripe in particular, because they hold your most sensitive information.
23 State-specific disclosures
23.1 Maryland
Strech operates in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Maryland Online Data Privacy Act does not apply to information about individuals acting in a commercial or employment context, which may include Pros acting for their businesses. We nevertheless give every Pro the rights in Section 18 and follow the same standards for Pros as for homeowners. We follow the Maryland Personal Information Protection Act for security and breach notice. We follow the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act for background checks, and we follow the Montgomery County Fair Criminal Record Screening Standards, including ordering criminal history only after a conditional approval and giving notice before any adverse decision.
23.2 California
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, covers personal information about independent contractors and gives you the rights in Section 18, the right to know the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you, and the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We use sensitive personal information, such as background check results, account credentials, and precise location during jobs, only for purposes that do not give rise to the right to limit. In the past 12 months, we collected the following categories, from the sources in Section 3, for the purposes in Sections 4, 5 and 8, and disclosed each for a business purpose to the recipients described in Section 9:
- identifiers, such as name, email address, phone number, IP address and account identifiers;
- personal information described in California Civil Code Section 1798.80(e), such as your address and insurance policy number;
- commercial information, such as job and payment records;
- internet or other electronic activity, such as Pro App usage and logs;
- geolocation data, meaning precise location during active jobs and your base point;
- audio, electronic or visual information, such as your profile photo and job photos;
- professional or employment-related information, such as your trade, years of experience, licenses, insurance, training records, ratings and performance information;
- inferences, such as matching rankings; and
- sensitive personal information, such as account sign-in credentials, precise location during active jobs, and criminal history in background check results held in Checkr's system.
We keep each category as described in Section 16. We have not sold personal information or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising in the past 12 months, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not use automated decision-making technology to make significant decisions about Pros without human involvement. If you are a California resident, California law may also limit how we consider criminal history; we will follow it if we operate in California.
23.3 Oregon, Minnesota and Delaware
Where the law of your state gives you the right to a list of the specific third parties, or the categories of third parties, that received your personal information, or the right to question the result of profiling, you may use it under Section 18.
23.4 Other states
If you live in another state with a consumer privacy law, you have the rights that law gives you, and you can use them through Section 18. If we expand to another state or city with rules on background checks, criminal history or the deactivation of app-based workers, we will update this Policy and the Pro Terms to follow them before we accept Pros there.
24 Changes to this Policy
We review this Policy at least once a year and update it when our practices or the law change. When we update it, we post the new version in the Pro App and on our website at https://strech.ai/privacy/pros/ and change the "last updated" date. If we make a material change, we notify you in the Pro App or by email before it takes effect and tell you what has changed. We will not use personal information collected under an earlier version in a materially different way without first giving you notice and, where the law requires, getting your consent. Where the law allows, if you continue to use Strech after an update takes effect, the updated Policy applies to you. Earlier versions are available on request.
Notices at the point of collection. The Pro App and our vetting process also give you short notices when we collect information, for example on the application form on our website and in the Pro App, before the in-person meeting, on the training sign-off, in the background check disclosure, and on the text-message checkbox. These notices are part of this Policy, except the background check disclosure, which is a separate document.
25 Our privacy program and how to contact us
25.1 Who is responsible
Zaid Joseph, Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for this Policy, for Strech's privacy program, and for vetting decisions. Michael Tedla, Chief Executive Officer, reviews background check decisions that are not clear, decides suspensions and removals, hears appeals, and decides on government requests. Staff who handle Pro information are trained on this Policy and bound by confidentiality.
25.2 How we keep this Policy true
We review our practices against this Policy at least once a year. Before we add a new feature, service provider, screening step or software component that handles Pro information, we check it against this Policy and update the Policy first if needed. Where the law requires it, we carry out a data protection assessment before processing that presents a heightened risk of harm.
25.3 New features
If we ever introduce a new type of check or monitoring, such as a new identity verification step, we will update this Policy first, explain what it collects and why, and, where the law requires or the information is sensitive, ask for your consent before collecting it.
25.4 Contact
Questions, requests and complaints about this Policy or your personal information go to:
Strech Inc., Attention: Privacy, 6107 Rosemont Circle, Rockville, MD 20852. Email: pro@strech.ai, with the subject "Privacy". Only the Strech staff responsible for privacy and vetting handle privacy requests, appeals, background check matters and legal process.
We aim to acknowledge every message within 10 business days and to resolve every complaint directly. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland, or the attorney general of the state where you live. Questions about your background check report should go to Checkr, and questions about your payout account or tax forms to Stripe.
